Power Supply
Progress: Complete
The output balancing circuits I designed require +15V and -15V power supply rails. So I needed to build something to power them. I decided I'd build a 3 rail power supply that provides +15, -15 and +48, because that can be used to power a whole bunch of audio stuff, even if it needs to provide phantom power. I grabbed a schematic from the JLM Audio website that showed exactly what I needed to do - the schematic is here. It uses a 15V-0V-15V toroid to generate the +15V and -15V. The +48V is generated using a voltage tripler. Each rail is regulated with an adjustable regulator, LM317 for positive and LM337 for the negative. JLM sell boards for this project, but I had a few extra hours, so I just freeformed it on vero board. I got it done, but if I had to do it again, I would just buy the PCB. The JLM PCBs look very well designed (a lot better what my layout ended up like). But anyway, I wired it all up, and everything worked, first power up. All I had left to do was mount it all in a box.
The first box I got was too small, so I got one of the next size up. To make a long story short, this one was still too small as well, but I was determined to fit everything in. It's not too pretty but I managed it.
